Drugs In Professional Sports
There are two types of drugs in sports: recreational drugs and performance enhancing drugs.
Use of either type of drug damages the image of professional sports.
Young people look up to sports figures. Society needs these figures to set a good example for the others. Using recreational drugs sends the wrong message. Recreational drugs are harmful to the users health and personal finances. Recreational drugs are also illegal.
Performance enhancing drugs and other procedures are CHEATING. No ifs, ands or buts; it is CHEATING. That cheating is okay, is not a message to be sent to young people. Good people do not cheat.
It is the responsibility of professional sports to end both types of drug use.
The solution is simple: any use of either type of drug is a total separation from professional sports.
The drug using player would
– be banned from professional sports for life
– his current contract would be voided and all monies paid under that contract returned to the team
– lose all pensions and benefits
– have all of his performance records deleted
– it would be as if the player had never played
The sports league would conduct random drug tests for both types of drugs.
This would end drug use in professional sports.
The facts no one wants to read.
